Room Selection Information and Important Updates
Only students who completed their housing applications on or before May 15 will be eligible to participate in room selection. Students who submitted applications after May 15 will be manually assigned by our office.
Important Update
Room selection dates have been adjusted, and the information below supersedes any previous communications you may have received. Please review these updated details carefully, as they reflect the most current room selection timelines and processes.
Welcome to Residence Life and Housing at The University of Akron! We are excited to support you through the online room selection process. Below you will find important information about housing options, eligibility, timelines, and next steps.
Students with ADA Accommodations
Students with approved ADA accommodations through the Office of Accessibility — with the exception of students approved only for an Emotional Support Animal — will be manually assigned by our office and will not participate in online room selection.
Students receiving manual assignments will receive their housing information directly from Residence Life and Housing.
Themed Housing Communities
The application deadline for most themed housing communities was May 15, with the exception of Emerging Leaders.
Students who applied to any of the following communities will be manually assigned by our office:
- Emerging Leaders
- Engineering
- Business
- Nursing & Health Professions
- Mixed Gender
- Army ROTC
- The Arts
Honors Housing Information
Shared Single Requests in the Honors Complex
Students interested in requesting a shared single in the Honors Complex should complete the following steps:
- Form a roommate group in the housing portal
- Email and copy your roommate on the message
- Submit your request by Sunday, May 24 at 5:00 p.m.
Shared single assignments will be made manually by our office based on availability, with priority given to students who completed their housing contracts earliest.
Students who request a shared single but are not assigned one will be notified prior to Honors Complex double room selection.
Honors Room Selection Timeline
Honors Complex Doubles
Begins at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26 and concludes at 11:59 p.m.
Honors Clusters (Exchange Street or South Hall)
Begins at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27 and concludes at 11:59 p.m.
General Room Selection
All other new students will participate in room selection during the following timeframe:
Thursday, May 28
Begins at 9:00 a.m. and concludes at 11:59 p.m.
Eligible students may select:
- Double rooms
- Double suites in Spanton Hall
- South Hall
- Spicer Hall
Finding Your Room Selection Time
Your individual room selection time and eligibility information can be found in the housing portal.
To view your information:
- Log into the web version of the housing portal
- Click Home in the left-hand menu
- Locate the Room Selection section
After selecting a room, you will also return to this section to confirm your housing assignment.
Important Reminders
- New students do not have access to apartments or shared singles, except for approved shared singles in the Honors Complex as outlined above.
- We encourage all students to log into the housing portal now to review the room selection processes available to them.
