Estrella Lemus, President

Hey everyone! I'm Estrella (she/her) and I have the joy of serving as president of the AKD chapter here at AU! As a sociology senior, my academic heart belongs to researching identity—a passion I can't wait to take to graduate school after my time in Akron! When I'm not theorizing or leading meetings, you can find me fueled by copious amounts of coffee, cuddling with my cats, or seeing the newest movie at the theaters! At the end of the day, I’m passionate about understanding people ; both through my research and in my everyday life.

Emma Bass, Treasurer

My name is Emma, she/her, and I am a Sociology major with a minor in Women’s Studies, as well as a Certificate in Conflict Transformation and Social Entrepreneurship. I am passionate about gender equality and human rights. I enjoy spending time with friends and playing trombone in the marching band. I cannot wait for AKD to grow with new members, new ideas, and to make a difference in our community!

Kellie Hughes, Vice President

 (They/She/He) My name is Kellie Ann, but everyone just calls me Kellie. I am a sociology major with a passion for social work and participating in community service. I’m currently working in mental health as a technician and in childcare. I am also a big sister, a performer and a lover of all things crafty. My favorite movie quote would have to be “See a need, fill a need” from the movie Robots. I’m excited to see what safe space is built within and around AKD!

Carmen Meeker, Social Media Manager

I’m a sociology major with a minor in women’s studies and am passionate about gender equality and environmental conservation. I’m a laid-back person who spends my free-time with my sister relaxing, usually re-watching movies and shows or out on nature trails observing wildlife. I’d love AKD to grow in passionate membership and become an influential organization!

 Lauren Holler, Community Liaison

 Hi, I’m Lauren! I’m a biomedical science major with a minor in sociology. I think when it comes to sociology it answers the question of why the world is the way that it is and helps us imagine how we could make it better, then put those ideas into actions. I like to spend my free time playing basketball or hiking, or going to the movie theater with my sister. I’m excited for AKD to expand and gain new members who are seeking to make a difference in the community!
