Statistics turns numbers into insights.
At UA, you’ll learn to collect, analyze, and interpret data to uncover insights that drive action.
Our programs train students on how to apply statistical methodologies to investigate and extract information from data. From biology to political science, and from business to engineering, you can apply what you learn here to solve problems, shape policy, and make smarter decisions. These are critical skill sets that can take you far in many career path.
Why Statistics?
Statistics can be applied to a wide array of academic areas, from Biology, Chemistry, and Anthropology to Geography, Political Science, and Sociology. From undergraduate majors to graduate certificates, our programs prepare you for success in today’s data-driven world.
Statistics, BS
A traditional statistics degree equips students with a deep knowledge of Mathematics, Statistics, and Data Science as well. Gain hands-on experience through the Center of Statistical Consulting, applying your knowledge as a consultant. This is a flexible degree with a core in Calculus and Statistics, leaving options for diverse targeted electives in areas of statistics research, machine learning, and more!
Statistics – Data Science, BS
Data Science is an interdisciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge and insights from any structural and unstructured data. Data Science is related to data mining, deep learning and big data.
Statistics – Actuarial Science, BS
A degree in Actuarial Science enables careers in models, and measuring risk, and determining the price of various insurance products. Subjects of study include Risk Distribution, Law of Large Numbers, and Central Limit Theorem. Roles are expanding into non-traditional risk management.
BS/MS Combined Degree in Statistics
At UA, you can complete a bachelor’s and master’s degree in as little as five years. During your senior year of select bachelor’s degree programs, you will complete coursework that counts toward both the bachelor’s and master’s degree. So, you can earn both degrees in as little as 5 years instead of the usual 6 or more, while realizing significant financial savings.
Statistics Minor
A minor in Statistics may be easier to add to your degree than you think! Statistics will provide you insight to better understand the data in your professional field, and introduce you to the tools and mathematics to be able to produce value with that data. This minor track includes Calculus, making it a good fit for STEM majors.
Applied Statistics Minor
A minor in Applied Statistics provides a direct line to empowering you to be a statistical consultant, giving you the knowledge to analyze and manage business data with statistical software tools. Calculus is not required on this track, and is more focused on applying statistical tools to your professional work.
Statistics, MS
A Master of Science in Statistics is traditionally completed in 2 years. Students from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds find value in studying statistics beyond undergraduate classes. Assistantships are available for full-time graduate students. We have both a thesis and non-thesis option available.
Applied Statistics, MS
The Applied Statistics track prepares you for immediate impact in the workforce. This 30-credit program blends core courses in regression, experimental design, and statistical data management with a wide selection of graduate electives, allowing you to tailor your learning to your professional interests.
Certificate in Statistical Data Science
This certificate provides an opportunity for those who already have a Bachelor's degree to acquire additional data analytics skills. With a variety of courses to choose from, the certificate program can be tailored to one's particular needs or interests. The courses are taught from an applications perspective, so they are accessible to students from a variety of technical and non-technical backgrounds. All courses are online, so the certificate can be completed by those whose job or family responsibilities preclude attending daytime classes.
Our professors bring real-world experience into the classroom, mentoring students for academic and career success.
The William H. Beyer Statistics Scholarship provides scholarship support for outstanding undergraduate and/or graduate students majoring in statistics.
