Undergraduate Program

The undergraduate Statistics Program at The University of Akron prepares students for a successful career in a multitude of fields. The general program offers a comprehensive curriculum in statistical theory and application with training that has been proven to enable our graduates to earn jobs in government, all branches of industry, and academia.

Our students receive training in critical thinking about sources, presentation, interpretation, and prediction/forecasting of data, as well as the merit of conclusions drawn from data.

Teaching is the top priority here. Our faculty members bring academics to life by incorporating real-life statistical challenges into the coursework while maintaining a friendly and helpful atmosphere that makes the department an enjoyable place to learn and gain practical experience.

Graduate Program

Statistics provides the reasoning and methods for producing and understanding data. Statisticians are specialists, but statistics demands they be generalists as well. Working in statistics enables you to combine your interest with almost any other field.

Statisticians provide crucial guidance in determining what information is reliable and which predictions can be trusted. They often search for clues to the solution of a scientific mystery and keep investigators from being misled by false impressions.

A master's degree or PhD is often recommended or required for higher-level positions. The University of Akron’s Graduate Statistics Program focuses on applied statistics and the master’s degree is in high demand with expected increase over the next decade.
