PURPOSE: WHAT IS UPWARD BOUND?

Upward Bound provides intensive academic support services for income-eligible students to enhance the pursuit and achievement of a postsecondary education.  The program serves 110 students from five Akron Public Schools. Upward Bound is supported through the U.S. Department of Education and The University of Akron.

ELIGIBILITY: HOW DO I ENROLL IN THE PROGRAM?

Upward Bound students must meet federal income guidelines and must be first-generation college students. Participants will be the first in their immediate family to acquire a baccalaureate degree. Students can apply to the program at the end of eighth grade and any time prior to completing their sophomore year of high school. Students accepted into the program are required to reach and maintain a 2.5 grade point average, follow a strict college preparatory curriculum and demonstrate the desire to attend college. Students are selected based on the above requirements, application materials, teacher/counselor recommendation forms and a student-parent interview.
