PROGRAM

Games of Focus for 2026:

In 2027 we will focus on six games for our in-person camps: Super Smash Brothers, Rocket League, Overwatch 2, Valorant, Marvel Rivals, and Fortnite! In addition to those games, we will also have ample time throughout the day to explore a variety of different games that campers are interested in playing with our staff with games like Rainbow 6 Siege, Call of Duty and more.

Career Opportunities and Training:

The UA Esports staff will offer 2 classes per day to help campers learn about professions in the realm of esports, with topics ranging from broadcasting to PC building. Campers are expected to spend around two hours each day learning practical, IT-related skills.

Growth in gaming potential:

Campers will also be able to take classes from players on the Akron Esports varsity team, who will analyze campers’ gameplay and provide one-on-one assistance and coaching.

Team-based and coached gaming sessions:

Each camper will be placed on a team upon arrival. Each team will be coached by an Akron Esports varsity player or professional coach, who will lead in-game and out-of-game team-building exercises, focusing on individual and cooperative success.

Communication skills:

One of the largest indicators of success in esports is the ability of a team to communicate effectively both in-game and out-of-game. Each session will therefore focus on improving communication and teamwork skills.

Physical education:

Physical health is crucial to the Akron Esports program and to success in esports. Campers will spend an hour each day exercising and participating in activities.

End of week live show match:

Parents and friends will be invited to watch campers play a live match at the end of the week.

NEW for 2027 Kids Camp

Kids camp this year is something new that we wanted to run to help younger campers become more familiar with health gaming habits and create friendships through gaming. This camp is intended for elementary school aged kids, 7-11 years old. We will focus on age appropriate games from our list above (Rocket League and Super Smash Bros), but will also include other titles which appeal to that age group (Minecraft and Mario Kart).

The camp will run from 9am-2:30pm M-TH and 9am-5pm on Friday. There will be a showcase tournament that parents can come and watch live on Friday.

Campers will learn various skills related to gaming and esports from professional staff members and college students on the varsity teams. They will also engage in light outdoor activity during the late morning. For this camp only, lunch is not included - please send your camper with a packed lunch daily.
