Brass Camp:

The University of Akron’s week-long brass camp is for high-school brass musicians (middle school students by teacher recommendation). Students will spend the week developing technical ability, interpretive skills, and will increase their understanding of a variety of genres and musical styles through masterclasses, lessons with faculty, and chamber music ensembles. 

  • Faculty members are Dr. James Johnson-Trumpet, Dr. Lauren Rudzinskas-Trombone, Dr. Christopher Blaha-Tuba and Euphonium, and Dr. Kiirsi Maunula- Johnson-French Horn, and several guest artists 

Saxophone Camp:

The University of Akron’s saxophone camp is a one-week intensive saxophone experience for high-school students (middle school students by teacher recommendation). Students receive one-on-one lessons (classical or jazz) and participate in daily technique classes, master classes, and saxophone quartets. Camp culminates in a concert on Friday featuring faculty and staff.  

  • Faculty members are Dr. Todd Gaffke and Dr. Justin Evangelist, along with several guests.  

Voice Camp:

The University of Akron’s voice camp is a one-week intensive for high-school students (middle school students by teacher recommendation). Students will work with members of the voice faculty to enhance their vocal performance through one-on-one lessons, classes in auditioning, vocal technique, lyric diction, singing health, aural skills, acting games, master classes, ensembles, and stage work. Camp will culminate in a concert featuring faculty, staff, and students on Friday in the beautiful Guzetta Recital Hall.

  • Faculty members include Dr. Laurie Lashbrook and Dr. Frank Ward as well as other special guests.  

Sample Daily Schedule 


9 a.m. – 11:45 AM Individual lessons, practice time, special topics class 1 
12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Lunch 
1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Recitals/Performances/Masterclasses: Students/Faculty 
2 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. Chamber Music Ensembles Rehearsal 
2:45 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. Individual Practice/Lessons 2 
4:15 p.m. – 5 p.m. Special Topics Session 2 
5 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Dinner 
7:00 p.m. Night Activities (Rubber Ducks Game/Swimming at the Rec) 
10:00 p.m. Lights out 


Camp Fees:

  • Residential Camp Tuition, including meals and housing: $450
  • Commuter Camp Tuition, including lunch: $300
  • Summer Camp Registration: $25
