Buchtel College of Arts & Sciences
Nearly every student on campus passes through our halls. In addition to offering world-class bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs, we provide the majority of general education courses for the University.
Our college is named for John R. Buchtel, a local industrialist who helped establish what is now The University of Akron.
Today, we’re home to 17 individual schools and departments with programs spanning education, fine arts, humanities, and natural and social sciences.
Our faculty members are more than passionate educators. They’re innovators and knowledge seekers. And as they embark on their own scholarly work, they mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
As part of a leading public research institution, we host 11 distinctive centers and institutes. These initiatives provide real-world learning experiences for students of all levels — and they also serve communities near and far.
We invite you to learn more about our programs and people — and how we’re preparing Zips for exciting and rewarding careers.
