FETCHLAB™ Akron
FETCHLAB™, or the Facility for Education & Testing of Canine Hearing & the Laboratory for Animal Bioacoustics, is a community of clinicians, researchers and students that have an interest in the evaluation and management of canine hearing disorders and the study of hearing and vocalizations among animals. Currently, FETCHLAB™ has three active clinics: The University of Cincinnati (Founder), The University of Northern Colorado, and The University of Akron.
FETCHLAB™ Akron opened in 2016, was directed by Dr. Kristine Sonstrom Malowski (pictured center above) from 2016-2022. The current clinician working to continue the direction and work of the FETCHLAB™ Akron is Dr. Paige Wulliger as of January 2023.
Services provided at FETCHLAB™ Akron include:
- Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response (BAER) Hearing Screenings. BAER screenings are performed consistent with the standards and protocols recommended by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (https://www.ofa.org/diseases/other-diseases/congenital-deafness).
- BAER Diagnostic Testing (Identifies degree of hearing loss)
- Recommendations regarding the management and support of dogs with hearing loss is provided for dog owners and breeders
