Range: 1889 - Present Size: Record Group: 41/2The Buchtelite is the independent student newspaper of The University of Akron and its predecessors. It was first published in 1899 as a monthly, but was soon published bi-monthly, weekly, and then bi-weekly during the school year. Summer session editions were also published, starting in 1925. The newspaper has gone through various title changes including The Buchtelite, Akron Buchtelite, and Buchtelite. The collection includes bound and loose hard copies of the paper as well as microfilmed and digital copies.

The council was founded in 1958 when the McKinley Area Council of Canton merged with the Massillon Area Council. The records include materials documenting the history of the Buckeye Council including correspondence, meeting minutes, merger materials, financial records, annual programs, and information on the Colorado Springs Jamboree in 1960.

Range: 1920 - 1963 Size: 26 cubic feet Record Group: 99/160The Akron Area Council (#433) is a local council of the Boy Scouts of America located in Akron, Ohio. The council was founded in 1921, but merged with the Great Trail Council when it was created in 1971. The records consist of meeting materials, financial records, licenses and royalties, organizational procedures and practices, personnel files, and files on significant sponsoring institutions, Camp Manatoc, and various programs.

"Speed" Bosworth (1894-1979) was a player, manager, and coach for numerous Akron, Ohio baseball and basketball teams and also served as a scout for the Cleveland Indians. His papers include correspondence, military records, church programs, autograph sheets, awards, newspaper clippings, team statistics and scorecards, scrapbooks, and photographs of Bosworth's activities as a player and coach. His papers also include materials relating to the leagues in he coached as well as records pertaining to scouting for the Cleveland Indians such as Indians season passes, minor league rosters, player evaluation reports, and schedules.

Bock was a graduate of The University of Akron who worked as a radio broadcaster and personality for WADC radio and as an advertising agent in Akron, Ohio. He later co-founded the Broadcasters Hall of Fame and became an inductee. His papers include items from his radio and advertising careers, documents from the founding of the Broadcasters Hall of Fame, and materials from his time as a student at The University of Akron.

Range: 1981 - 2005 Size: 0.13 Record Group:Eileen Bluhm was the Vice President of Communications at the Akron Regional Development Board from 1975 to 1995 and was considered one of Akron’s “chief civic boosters.” She was involved in a number of local organizations including the Ohio Ballet, Akron Zoo, and the Akron Art Museum, to name a few. She was also a supporter of education and women’s rights. The scrapbook contains photographs, articles, awards, and newspaper clippings that document her life and work in the Akron area.

As Chairman of the Republican National Committee he helped rebuild the Republican Party and helped Richard Nixon win the White House in 1968. The papers document the life and work of Ray Bliss and his wife, Ellen, as well as the Republican Party and political events including conventions and inaugurations. They include correspondence, publications, newspaper clippings, photographs, scrapbooks, campaign materials, artifacts, and memorabilia.
Blakeman, Alan E., Canal Slides
Range: 1950s - 1950s Size: 0.1 Record Group:Alan E. Blakeman (1934-2016) of Montpelier, Vermont was a high school history and geography teacher in Ohio and Vermont and graduate of the College of Wooster where he wrote his senior independent study thesis on Ohio’s canals, titled “Canal Era in Ohio” (1956). His collection consists of 40 35mm color photographic slides he took of the remnants of the Ohio & Erie Canal during the 1950s.

Baus, Louis Canal Photograph Collection
Range: 1896 - 1933 Size: 0.5 cubic feet Record Group:Louis Baus, photographer, shot numerous scenes along the Ohio & Erie, Miami & Erie, and the connecting feeder canals. This collection of over 400 photo negatives portrays a sense of canal life during the late 1800s to early 1900s. Found in this collection are images of canal boats, crew and passengers, as well as various locks, businesses and homes along the canal ways.

Baldwin was an employee of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company under their flight operations department and later their astronautics and undersea warfare sales department. He also served as a pilot and personal aide to Paul W. Litchfield, president and later CEO and Chairman of the Board of Goodyear. His papers include photograph albums, logs, and subject files from Baldwin’s 34 years at the company, in addition to numerous Goodyear-related film strips, slides, published materials, and artifacts.

Range: 1849 - 1957 Size: 1 cubic foot Record Group: 99/104Rae Bailey (1879-1958) was an author born in Savannah, Ohio who spent most of her life serving the community under a variety of different occupations. In addition to numerous poems and short stories, Bailey's most noted works are The Heritage of Agriculture: Historical Pageant Depicting the Past Achievements of Ashland County (1933) and Old Keys: An Historical Sketch of Clear Creek Township, Ashland County, Ohio (1941). Her papers include various poems and short stories as well as materials relating to her interest in the history of Savannah and Clear Creek Township in Ashland County. The papers also include genealogical records about the author’s ancestors, the John R. Bailey Family.

Range: 1941 - 1945 Size: 1.0 Record Group: 100/37Wilfred T. “Wally” Berg (1908-2002) was an artist from Muskegon, Michigan who served as the photographer for the 17th Bomb Group of the 95th Bomb Squadron during World War II. He was stationed in North Africa, Italy, France, Austria, and Germany. His collection consists of photographic prints and negatives and notes on World War II as well as an extensive scrapbook made by Berg that includes photographs, newspaper clippings, and memorabilia.

Range: 1944 - 2012 Size: 1.36 Record Group: 100/29Wendell A. Fetters (1924-2015) of Iowa served as a tail gunner on a B-26 Marauder in the 391st Bomb Group, 574th Bomb Squadron of the 9th Air Force during World War II. He flew 25 missions until being shot down and captured, spending the rest of the war in a German prison camp. After the war he served as an account representative and marketing manager and as Vice Commander and then Commander of the 391sth Bomb Group Association. His collection consists of correspondence with members of the 391st Bomb Group Association, newsletters, memoirs, and histories of the 391st Bomb Group.

Range: 1942 - 2001 Size: 3 cubic feet Record Group: 100/1Lt. Col. Robert L. "Hap" Holliday (1916-2013) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania served as a B-26 Marauder pilot in the 572nd and 573rd bomb squadrons of the 391st Bombardment Group during World War II. He flew 65 missions during the war, including the D-Day invasion. After the war Holliday worked as a sales engineer and later founder and president of R.L. Holliday Company. It was originally attached to the 12th Air Force, mostly flying B-26 Marauders in the North African and Italian campaigns, but was later attached to the 7th Air Force in the Pacific Theater. The 319th Bombardment Group Reunion Association was organized in 1974 to plan reunions of members and preserve the group’s history, but disbanded in 1999. The association’s collection consists of newsletters, photographs, correspondence, printed materials, and videos created and collected by the association and its members.

The B-26 Marauder Archives consists of photographs, letters, diaries, mission reports, microfilm, artifacts, and other materials that document the important contribution made by the B-26 Marauder and the men who flew and maintained them during the Second World War. The Archives also contains official records of numerous Marauder reunion groups including newsletters, membership lists, reunion programs, and photographs. Collections are classified into the following broad categories:
- University Archives contain historical resources that document the history and development of The University of Akron and its predecessor institutions.
- Special Collections documents regional (mainly Akron and Summit County) history, and other designated collecting areas. Special Collections materials include personal and family papers and historical records of local governments, businesses, and civic and community organizations. Collection strengths are the history of the rubber and polymer industry, lighter-than-air flight, and Ohio canals. Special collections also include local government records for a nine county region.
- Book collections include rare books and books documenting the history of the university, the region, and special topics. All cataloged books are included in the UA Libraries Catalog.
