Range: 1893 - 1990 Size: 0.5 cubic feet Record Group: 2The general history records contain correspondence, historical summaries, and reminiscences primarily relating to the early years of Buchtel College. A majority of the correspondence including in this collection are former students and alumni remembering their time at Buchtel College. Of special note is a student letter written immediately following the Buchtel Hall fire of 1899. Other topics include the college’s founders, Lucinda “Aunty” Brown’s boarding house, and student activities during World War I and II.

Range: 1939 - 1987 Size: 64 cubic feet Record Group:The United Rubber Workers (URW) was founded in Akron in 1935 to improve working conditions for all rubber workers. In 1995, the URW merged with the United Steelworks of America (USW). At its peak, the URW had nearly 200,000 members in hundreds of chapters throughout the United States and Canada. The records include newsletters, contracts, agreements, negotiations, grievance files, petitions, general office files, meeting minutes, union elections, and photographs of URW Local 5 of Akron.

The bulk of the collection consists of local contracts and negotiations.
United Community Council of Summit County Records
Range: 1941 - 1975 Size: 3.0 Record Group: 99/91The United Community Council (UCC) of Summit County was a non-profit organization that represented public and voluntary health, welfare, group-work, and recreation agencies and organizations. Its job was to create plans to meet problems in these areas and to mobilize citizens’ support in favor of these projects. The records document the history of the UCC including its origins, functions, objectives, organization, operation and programs and mostly include meeting minutes, studies, and publications.

- University Archives contain historical resources that document the history and development of The University of Akron and its predecessor institutions.
- Special Collections documents regional (mainly Akron and Summit County) history, and other designated collecting areas. Special Collections materials include personal and family papers and historical records of local governments, businesses, and civic and community organizations. Collection strengths are the history of the rubber and polymer industry, lighter-than-air flight, and Ohio canals. Special collections also include local government records for a nine county region.
- Book collections include rare books and books documenting the history of the university, the region, and special topics. All cataloged books are included in the UA Libraries Catalog.
